I have this problem. About once a month, I convince myself that I need to find a hobby. I need something to do with my free time, something fun and productive. ...And then I wake up and remember that I don't HAVE any free time! HA! Seriously, though, I do this, and it always ends badly. Some examples:
Crocheting -- I've done this since I was a kid. My gramma taught me. However, I've never had the attention span or dedication to make anything larger than a scarf. But boy, I do have about 15 rockin' scarves, if you ever need one.
Knitting -- My mother-in-law taught me to knit. It's fun. I decided to make arm warmers -- some cute lime green, hot pink, and black ones. ...I now have a six-inch-wide by ten-inch-long piece of cute lime green, hot pink, and black knit fabric. Never finished them.
Scrapbooking -- At least for this one, I didn't lie to myself. I knew I would never do it as much as I wanted, so in order to not spend a ton of money, I decided to go all digital. The cool thing about digital scrapping is the TON of website with cute papers, embellishments, and fonts for FREE!!! And I was right...I haven't touched any of it since I finished my wedding album. And that's not all true either, as it's not finished -- I never had it printed.
Well here's the dilemma...In the last week, I've talked myself into and out of two things:
1) Decorating Cakes Not just plain ol' cakes, I'm talking fondant-icing-topsy-turvy-layered-Ace-of-Cakes kinda stuff. Like :
This one
Or this one
I've done cakes before, but NOTHING like that. I've even promised my kid sister one like the first one for her graduation/18th b-day party in June. I've got high hopes for this.
2) Opening My Own Clothing StoreNow here's where it gets rich. I want to open a punk/rockabilly/goth clothing store -- You know, like Hot Topic, without the corporate selley-outeyness. The birth of the idea: I was looking at HT's website, and saw some cool green high heeled pumps with neat flowery designs...and thought...I could buy some plain leather pumps at Payless for $8 and Mod Podge some magazine cutouts on 'em, and have EVEN COOLER ones! And so, I decided that there isn't anywhere here in town that sells really good clothing, particularly not in a size that fits me. *aha moment* I'll open my own!
Not sure how far it will get. I'm thinking of starting off by selling some stuff on Etsy or making my own website. The shoes (pin-up prints fully customizable), maybe some jewelry, and I found a kick-ass pattern for a corset top, made of recycled magazines!!! That kind of thing.
Of course, I'll probably wake up tomorrow and decide to start saving money for Space Camp and become an astronaut. Or maybe run for mayor. Who knows.
